Changing Jobs in a Changing Economy
Whether you've been in your field a few years or a few decades, this seminar is for you if you're contemplating (or in the midst of) a career transition.
Sheila Curran, nationally recognized career expert and coach, will share secrets to successfully building your brand, designing a career strategy, and finding employment—even in a bad economy. As the former director of Career Services at Brown, Sheila will also highlight how you can use your Brown education to advantage in the job search. Before Sheila’s lecture, join fellow alumni for cocktails and conversation.
Sheila is president of Curran Career Consulting, a company whose mission is to provide enhanced career strategy services to colleges and universities, and to individuals at all stages of their career. She is passionate about coaching liberal arts graduates, having published—along with Suzanne Greenwald ’89—Smart Moves for Liberal Grads: Finding a Path to Your Perfect Career (Ten Speed Press) in 2006. Prior to starting her own company in 2008, Sheila spent 12 years directing career services at Brown University and Duke University. She has advised hundreds of new and experienced graduates find work they love.
Much of Sheila’s success with clients is due to her prior background in human resources. She understands careers from the perspective of both the individual and the prospective employer, and possesses decades of experience knowing what works in the job search. In addition to degrees in Russian, Persian and Education, Sheila holds the highest qualification in human resources, the SPHR.
Sheila is frequently quoted on careers in the national media, and has authored a column, Curran on Careers, for Business Week. She has been appointed the College/University Career Expert for the national Career Thought Leaders Consortium.
