Enjoy a performance piece at the BU Theater, created by Wendy Jehlen, Brown Class of 1994. The show explores the figure of Iblis (Satan) in some Sufi traditions. HWB combines Capoeira, Butoh, Contact Improv, African dance and ASL poetry. HWB takes our notion of good and evil, the divine and the satanic, and turns it on its head. HWB takes us from the time before time, through the suffering of Iblis in his separation from his Beloved, his quest for the same, through to his ecstatic annihilation. Text by Hallaj, Faiz, Iqbal, Hafiz and Rumi.
While an undergraduate at Brown University, Jehlen was introduced to Butoh, Capoeira, West African dance and, a wide-range of Modern and Contemporary dance styles, which she has continued to study in New York City, Boston, Washington, DC, Venice, Tokyo and Madras.
